The in sen scale is the only pentatonic scale we will discuss that is not a mode of the major pentatonic scale. This scale is a traditional Japanese scale, and may be used in jazz to impart an Asian flavor to the music. The scale generates a phrygian or susb9 chord, and therefore is used over these chords:
