A Jazz Improvisation Almanac Unit: Music Theory Chapter: Jazz Scales |
|
This is a preview of the educational program A Jazz Improvisation Almanac which is under development for the Outside Shore Music Online School. Feel free to browse this preview and learn what you can from it. For a more completed product, though, check out the original freely browsable jazz textbook, A Jazz Improvisation Primer. This section introduces some scales that are unique to jazz. Unlike the major scale and its modes, there is no history of use of these scales in classical music. They appear to be the invention of jazz or blues musicians. There is no universally agreed upon standard form for these scales. The forms given here are what I perceive to be the ones in most common use.
