The drums are traditionally thought of as being the timekeepers for the band. While this is indeed an important role for the drummer, there are other responsibilities to consider as well. A drummer is not just a metronome, but he can contribute musically to a performance just as creatively as on any other instrument. This chapter describes some of the musical considerations of drumming.
