Defining Shapes

The shapes in my initial block-in were stated very loosely,, just to give a basic idea of their size and position. At this point, I start refining these shapes. This is done mostly by expanding them. If a shape is actually supposed to be smaller, I simply enlarge the adjacent shape to cut into the one that needs to be smaller. Actually, I do sometimes wipe paint off as well, but as sparsely as the paint has been applied thus far, there is not much to wipe. Also, I do not use turpentine or any other solvent in my painting, and wiping with a dry paper towel at this stage is not as effective as it would be if I soaked the rag in solvent first. Again, I spent less than ten minutes on this stage.
