Wendy
Fopeano is a jazz vocalist with a beautiful voice who can be described as a
musician who sings. The music on this CD is unusually spontaneous, due in large
part to Wendy's ability to interact with the other musicians in her band. Art
Lande, a truly incredible pianist and composer, provides several challenging
compositions and helped to work out arrangements of the standards, often right
there in the studio. Most of the tracks are first or second takes, which is a
testament to the musicianship of the group. Bassist Dwight Kilian has one of the
fattest and prettiest sounds around. Drummer Jill Fredericksen listens and
responds to the music beautifully and plays with a lot of finesse. These
musicians play from their hearts. The CD is a group effort, with plenty of solo
space for everyone. It should appeal to all jazz fans, not just fans of vocal
music.
