How Can I Tell You?

How Can I Tell You? was composed 1996. It is intended to be part of a musical, a retelling of the story of Noah and the Ark. This song is sung by Noah's wife, after Noah tells her they have to build an ark. How Can I Tell You? was first recorded on The Spanish Inquisition.

The section with the dotted quarter notes (systems five and six) can be thought of as a bridge, and the rhythm section should feel the dotted quarter note as a new superimposed pulse. Solos are over the vamp, but each solo ends by taking the head one time through. To end the tune, we often play the first section twice, then vamp out on the Db chord.
