Marc Sabatella performs most regularly with his trio and quartet. They primarily performs Sabatella’s original compositions, which feature catchy tunes and grooves but also tend to be more complex than typical jazz combo fare. They also draw from the standard repertoire, especially in the trio configuration. Sabatella is influenced by bands such as the Keith Jarrett Quartet, the George Adams / Don Pullen Quartet, and various small groups led by Charles Mingus, Dave Holland, and others.

Sabatella has been developing his body of trio and quartet music since the 1980’s, and he has performed it with many musicians through the years. This music has proven to have an unusually wide appeal both within the jazz world and beyond.
